I’ve been trying to get out to experience Haes Farm near Stanford since I first met owners Harry and Steyn at a Travel Massive event in July last year, but even though we keep setting dates, they are yet to be realised.

But we’ve stayed in touch throughout and I was excited to see that they are collaborating with friend and celebrity Chef Neill Anthony to offer a culinary weekend on the farm on 12 and 13 November. It will be an 11 course meal with wines included, music, art, architecture and unsurpassed views that will inspire and motivate.


About Private Chef Neil Anthony – if you don’t know.

Hailing from world class kitchens, Neill Anthony is one of Cape Town’s very few private chefs. He spent 10 years in Europe, honing his skills in the professional kitchens of Gordon Ramsay, Alyn Williams, Jerome Henry and Marcus Waering. Neill’s claim to fame has got to be the fact that he was the påtissier at Gordon Ramsay’s Hospital Road in London.

And now he is ready to share his adventures with the world in his new television series, Neill Anthony – The Private Chef. Broadcasting internationally on Food Network in over 98 countries, the series provides a glimpse into the secret and exciting, day-to-day life of this private chef. On call 24/7 to cater to the demands of his exclusive clientele, the location may be an ocean-side villa, a game farm or even a tiny galley kitchen on a yacht.

The nature and size of the request doesn’t matter. What does is the dining extravaganza that he is expected to deliver to satisfy the most demanding of clients. And in true Neill Anthony style, he delivers with flair.

I have had the great pleasure of eating Neill’s food on numerous occasions and am completely astounded by the flavour and complexities that he draws from the fresh, sustainable and hand sourced products he chooses to create with.


About Haes Farm – Eco Fynbos Retreat

Haes Farm is a labour of love.  Harry and Steyn decided 3 years ago to buy a piece of land to fulfil their dream: to go organic, off the grid, and live a self-sustaining way of life.  And they wanted to share it with likeminded friends, family and guests.

Situated about 11 km outside the village of Stanford, this magnificent piece of land – 40 hectares in total – has unsurpassed views and a house to match and is found on 36 hectares filled with fynbos – indigenous to this part of the world and part of a larger biosphere / ecosystem in the area.

Lemon, peach and olive trees make up about 4 hectares and 1 hectare is filled with rosemary and thyme.  It is both a working farm and guest farm and I can’t wait to make my invitation to stay – a reality.
